The Beginning
Nero Pickett may come from humble beginnings, but by no means is his skill-or passion for music-small. Being born in Grand Rapids and raised in Saginaw, MI makes one hardened by the realities of working-class living. Pickett, who goes by the artist name MTE RO, was introduced to "the craft" by a neighborhood friend. What started off as a hobby became a competitive sport, similar to the ones he played as a teen evading "the trap". On AAU basketball trips and bus rides after football practice, cyphers were his first unofficial showcases. "Jumping in those [cyphers at the back of a bus] were some of the best moments... Getting in those were always a must... Or any moment when it was more than one school in a building [for an athletic event] I was always competitive. Not as a battle rapper, but as far as the craft and originality we was bringing to the table..."
While he gained his name and game in the "Dirty Mitten", the hard-work ethic that arose from his Midwestern roots calcified while settling in the Lonestar State. As head of 2Serious Entertainment, his allies come from all over the map, from Alabama to the UK, Florida to Australia. His aim? Simple. Gain your love and support as a part of his movement. Born of One-Nighters
Starting out, the idea of living the road band life was the last thing on our minds. After we did all the local gigs, we realized the only way for us to evolve as a band was to hit the road. Over the next five years, we logged thousands of gigs — with the occasional festival appearance — in cities across the country. Our time on the road proved crucial in shaping our sound.
